02 / 08About
A dentist whose clinical work and research answer to the same question: what does the evidence actually support?
Rawand Shado qualified BDS at Barts and The London in 2025, where he was awarded the Evelyn Sprawson Prize. The clinical questions that interest him are in oral surgery — when to graft, which protocol to follow, where the evidence is thinner than it looks.
That gap pulled him into research. His reviews and meta-analyses cover implant loading protocols, socket preservation, antibiotic prophylaxis, soft-tissue expansion before bone augmentation, and intravenous sedation. He holds an honorary clinical lectureship at Queen Mary University of London.
His education work is more infrastructure than lecturing: a university-wide AI literacy module he helped create, a free national map of dental training posts, exam preparation for the students coming up behind him. Implant dentistry features heavily in that published work — for now a research and training interest, not a treatment he provides.
